The challenges in ski cross and snowboard cross

Ski cross and snowboard cross present coaches with a unique challenge: the sport exists in two fundamentally different training modes. In time trials, precise timing and video analysis are needed – like in alpine skiing. In head-to-head heats, four athletes race simultaneously, without a start gate, without a traditional finish line. Until now, systematic data collection in this format was nearly impossible.

Timing set up in minutes

The timing system is ready before the first athlete starts. CHRONOS only needs to be switched on at the track, everything else happens in the app. The specially developed start post is height-adjustable and positioned in seconds, the brush bar for the light barrier sits precisely on the snow pole. The course is configured via app: start, finish, any number of split times. On site, CHRONOS just needs to be switched on. False triggers are a thing of the past with the adjustable reference time. Need more? Each additional split time only requires another CHRONOS, a light barrier and two snow poles. Four buttons, one backpack, ready in minutes – in any weather, on any track.

Real-time analysis directly on the track

The Lympik Web-App evaluates all timing data in real-time and delivers the desired analyses directly to smartphone, tablet or PC – while training is still ongoing. Chronological view, grouping by athlete, grouping by run or ranking: all perspectives are available at the touch of a button and are automatically updated with each new run. With sector times, every run can be compared and analyzed in seconds – enabling immediate feedback. Want to dig deeper? All data can be exported to Excel for individual analyses. No waiting time, no office needed – analysis starts on the track.

Multiple athletes simultaneously – no problem

In head-to-head heats, four athletes race on the same course simultaneously. OCULUS captures each athlete independently – each tracker runs on its own, all data flows in parallel. Virtual gates are defined once as GPS points on the map: start, any number of split times and finish. As soon as an athlete passes one of these points, their sector time is automatically recorded – for all four racers at once, without any additional hardware on the course. The gates remain saved and can be reused for every subsequent heat. After training, each tracker automatically uploads the data via WiFi to the web app – all athletes at once, in seconds.

Continuous analysis across the entire course

With OCULUS, run analysis is no longer limited to finish time and split times. The GPS tracker delivers 10 measurement points per second with exact position and speed data for every single point on the track – with an accuracy of under 1.5 meters. Every turn is documented in detail and shows precisely where time was gained or lost and which line is fastest. The web app automatically assigns all runs to the correct athletes and enables direct comparison. Different views are available at the touch of a button and are continuously updated with new data.

Video analysis with GPS data – automatically synchronized

Upload video, done. The software automatically recognizes which athlete and which run is visible in the video – thanks to time synchronization through IRIS. Timing data from CHRONOS and GPS data from OCULUS are integrated into the video analysis in seconds. Speed, split times and position data appear directly in the video. No more tedious renaming and cutting of videos! What used to take several hours of preparation is now done in seconds. Video, motion and time – in one app, fully integrated.

How it works

1. Setup
Configure the course: Either set up CHRONOS devices as start and finish & configure in the web app. Or for head-to-head, switch on OCULUS trackers.
2. Measurement
CHRONOS, OCULUS and IRIS run simultaneously – timing, GPS tracking and video are recorded in parallel. After training, each OCULUS tracker automatically uploads the data via WiFi.
3. Analysis
All data flows automatically into the Lympik Web-App. Timing, GPS profile and video are immediately available as a synchronized complete picture – still on the track, on the coach's smartphone.
4. Comparison
Compare times, runs and sectors of athletes directly with each other. Turn by turn, sector-specific and heat against heat.
5. Share
Share results via link, WhatsApp or QR code with athletes and federation. Athlete profiles with configurable visibility settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Lympik be used for both time trials and head-to-head heats?
Yes – and that's exactly the strength of the system. In time trials, CHRONOS and OCULUS work together: traditional timing with parallel GPS tracking. In head-to-head format, OCULUS takes over complete timing via virtual gates – start, sector times and finish are defined as points on the map. Both modes can be evaluated and compared in the same web app.
